Sligo. Home to Benbulben, Queen Maeve’s grave, and Mullaghmore. The Sligo style of fiddle is one of the most famous and well-known of any traditional music styles. It was made famous by the fiddlers who emigrated from Sligo to New York between the 20’s and 40’s. It was here the Sligo fiddlers like Michael Coleman, James Morrison, Paddy Killoran and many others recorded some of the most important pieces of Irish music ever. The style is fast, flamboyant and highly ornamented, and this has carried over to all of the instruments played in Sligo.
