Leitrim, the shortest coastline in Ireland with only 2.4 miles of ocean, but it’s size does not let it fall short in it’s music. Leitrim is well-renowned for it’s flute playing, with this being the most prevalent instrument in the county. It is known for it’s highly rhythmic music with less focus on ornamentation. It is the birthplace of the famous John McKenna, whose recordings in the 1930’s and 40’s were some of the most influential throughout the 20th century. Leitrim may be physically small, but it’s music definitely packs a punch.
